King Of Comedy 喜劇之王 (1999) Review

Back in the 90s, Stephen Chow’s movies were primarily focused on his signature brand of mo lei tau (nonsensical) comedy. This is evidently seen in his numerous comedies like Fight Back To School <逃學威龍> (1991), From Beijing With Love <國產凌凌漆> (1994) and  The God Of Cookery <食神> (1996). But King Of Comedy <喜劇之王> marks a significant departure for this seasoned HK comedy veteran, whose signature gags are toned down in favour of a more affecting comedy-drama moment.
