Revisiting The White Storm 掃毒 (2013)
One of 2019’s highly-anticipated Hong Kong movie blockbusters would be Herman Yau’s The White Storm 2: Drug Lords <掃毒2: 天地對決>, which is scheduled to open on July 11, even though China has the privilege to watch it a week earlier (July 5). And as we wait for the release, it’s time to look back at the original White Storm <掃毒>.
Young Detective Dee: Rise of The Sea Dragon 狄仁杰之神都龙王 (2013) Review
Instead of a direct sequel to 2010’s Detective Dee And The Mystery Of The Phantom Flame <狄仁傑之通天帝國>, co-writer and director Tsui Hark dialled back down a notch by going the prequel route. He even recast Andy Lau’s titular role with a younger lead played by Mark Chao, the Taiwanese-Canadian actor best known in Monga <艋舺> and Black & White Episode 1: The Dawn Of Assault <痞子英雄>.
