Better Days 少年的你 Took Home 8 Awards for the 39th Hong Kong Film Awards

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic around the world, this year’s 39th Hong Kong Film Awards has made a rare exception for not presenting their awards in the traditional manner. Instead, for the first time ever since its inception in March 1982, the 39th Hong Kong Film Awards chose to announce the winners via live-stream on their official HKFA Facebook, YouTube and Instagram platforms.

Presented by the HKFA chairman Derek Yee (Tung-Sing) himself, the expected big winner turned out to be Better Days <少年的你>, which won a total of 8 awards out of its 12 nominations including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Screenplay. Screen veteran Tai Bo, in the meantime, finally won his first Hong Kong Film Awards in the acting category for Suk Suk <叔‧叔>. Heiward Mak’s Fagara <花椒之味>, which has 11 nominations, only managed to bring home a single award with Cheung Siu-Hong winning for Best Art Direction. Finally, Ip Man 4: The Finale <葉問4: 完結篇> won three technical awards including Best Film Editing, Best Action Choreography and Best Sound Design.
